Weekend brunch at Au Cheval: Cheeseburger and hash

So this previous weekend, I got an early Christmas present. A new camera! This means that the resolution/quality of my photos will no longer be only that of an iPhone 4 or 4s.

I took this baby out for a test run at Au Cheval this weekend. Just look at the quality and clarity.
It just oozes sex appeal.

Anyways, Ray came to visit this past weekend and we did a couple of things. We had brunch at Au Cheval, watched the new Bond movie, and went to the Chicago Fine Chocolate Show (coming later).

But, this post is about Au Cheval.

We went there at about 2 PM on Saturday and were able to get a table right away. (Seems like the hype around their cheeseburger is finally starting to die down) But since we were there, we figured we might as well try their cheeseburger.

Ray ordered the cheeseburger
The cheeseburger was pretty good, as far as cheeseburgers go. But, as one of my friends describes it, “It’s like a glorified McDonald’s cheeseburger”. I definitely see the comparison. The quality of the patty, the meat blend, wasn’t all that great, but it was well balanced with the rest of the flavors of the burger. In fact, had they used some other patty, the meat might have overpowered the rest of the flavors coming from the dijon mustard or the sharp American cheese. It was pretty enjoyable.

I got a latte and the hash.
I think the latte is mandatory if I’m even thinking about doing anything on the weekend.

And the hash…
Which was actually really well balanced. The crispiness of the potato went perfectly w/ the meat and gravy. It’s really good hearty hangover food.

Don’t forget the side of fries with aioli sauce.
